Residency

Located on the island of Ibiza, our residency up to artists the opportunity to work in an inspiring and peaceful environment for one month. The residency is suitable for painting and for paper art, but installations and sculpture may also be considered on case-by-case basis. Artists are provided with a comfortable apartment, meals, and a basic studio, as well as a guided introduction to the culture and nature of the island. At the end of the residency, artists are expected to present their work in the form of a mini art show and a talk, and may be offered the opportunity to become one of the featured artists in the CCAP collection. By invitation only.

Residents

The first CCAP Residency hosted artists Edith Dekyndt and Richard Magee for its inauguralsession in summer 2023.

Edith Dekyndt (b. 1960) is a visual artist. Her work observes, identifies, and transforms the performative phenomenology of ordinary materials, objects, and gestures. She lives and works in Brussels. Her most recent shows include Aria of Inertia at Kering Group Offices Paris, as part of Woman in Motion residency at Pinault Collection and a special project at the Bourse de Commerce’ Gallery as part of the Avant l’orage show. Both are ongoing till December of 2023.

During their residency, both artists worked closely together exploring the vast range of Ibicenco materials – from clay to snake skins – and the rich craftsmanship traditions of the island.

Richard Magee wrote the following about his experience;

 As an artist, it is interesting to be involved with something from the ground floor, and the Corinthian Contemporary Art Partnership Residency is a compelling project which will continue to develop and articulate its goals. Already it has been open to constructive change and adapting to what it sees as fit for those involved, while, the property and studio are comfortable and private, all whilst being in a perfect central location, the best way to get to know the island. Everyone I met attending the residency was friendly and willing to help, soon becoming a valued component of my experience.

I believe this atmosphere results from the residency’s aspirations and mindset for the project and would say the CCAP Residency is generous while being open to experimentation and unexpected outcomes, which are all highly valuable- if not the most valuable component in any residency setting.

Furthermore, I never believed I would have the privilege to experience the beautiful Ibiza, and am thankful for this. While reflecting, it is interesting to see how the island made itself apparent in the work I developed while there. Particular colours and themes stand out more prominently than in other places I have worked. One of the most important takeaways I can credit the residency with is the insight that even a simple geographical shift can lead to new avenues for production that I can further interrogate when I return to my day-to-day studio setting.

My residency coincided with the more senior Edith Dekyndt’s, leading to many generative conversations that gave me, a young artist, informative and worthwhile insights. I have always felt that one of the privileges of my life as an artist is the opportunity to dialogue with other artists, and that this was put in place was phenomenal.

Especially energising, was not only Edith’s presence but the many many artists who either are from Ibiza or call it home, augmenting the fact, that, as a location for further artistic ventures I think Ibiza offers an especially rich opportunity for future cultural development due to the independent artists already working there, and the many influential visitors the island already attracts each year who could support those artists – either through patronage or offers to work with those artists in a sustained and focussed way further afield.

In the future, I would like to see the residency become an ideal inlet for these prospective investors or outsider-invigorating artists to enter and experience the island while also becoming a key outlet for the best artists the island itself has to offer, enabling a reciprocal relationship that would work as an engine, enabling, mutually beneficial further artistic achievement to happen. In conclusion, I am glad to be given the chance to be there at the beginning of this exciting project.
